Almost
almost a year after its first Pocket PC offering,
Dell released its second Pocket PC Series, the
Axim X3. Available in three different configurations,
the X3 took Dell handhelds to the next level
in both price and performance.
The
Dell Axim X3i Wireless featured a 400MHz XScale
processor, 64MB of RAM and a 64MB ROM. It was also
the first Axim Pocket PC to feature onboard 802.11b
Wi-Fi wireless networking. The form factor also
changed; weighing over two ounces less than the
X5 series, the X3 is just .59" thick and is
almost a half an inch shorter.
Dell discontinued the X3 Series Pocket PCs when the X50 and X50v Axims were released. Dell has since pulled out of the handheld market altogether.
