The
Dell Axim X50v, along with the iPAQ
hx4705,
was the most advanced stand-alone Pocket PC of its time. The
X50v features a 624MHz PXA270 Intel XScale processor,
a 3.7" high resolution VGA display powered
by the Intel 2700G graphics accelerator chip,
Bluetooth and 802.11b Wi-Fi, 64MB of RAM,
a 128MB StrataFlash ROM, and both CompactFlash
and Secure Digital expansion slots.
The
X50 Series was Dell's second Pocket PC
redesign after the Axim X3/X30. Heavier
than the X30, but lighter than the X5, the X50v
isn't the smallest Pocket PC ever sold, but it packs
a punch. Because of the large-capacity
ROM chip, the device has over 150MB of free space;
62MB is accessible in the RAM and the unused
portion of the ROM is approximately 90MB.
Dell discontinued the X50 Series Pocket PCs when the X51 and X51v Axims were released. Dell has since pulled out of the handheld market altogether.
