The HTC Touch was first announced in June 2007. A revamped version of the HTC Elf, the Touch features a software interface called TouchFLO. With TouchFLO, the screen can detect the difference between the touch of a finger and the tap of a stylus; the new software can also accept "sweeps" of the finger as different commands. This is similar to, though not as sophisticated as, the multi-touch interface found on the Apple iPhone.
The HTC Touch has a respectable feature set beyond TouchFLO; the handset is powered by Windows Mobile 6 Professional, has both 802.11g and Bluetooth 2.0 onboard, is compatible with GSM/GPRS/EDGE wireless networks, and has a 2MP digital camera. Other features include 128MB of flash memory, 64MB of RAM, a microSD card slot (with an included 1GB card) and an 1100mAh Li-Ion battery.
Available in two colors, Soft Black and Wasabi Green, the GSM HTC Touch is available now in the UK and other parts of the world, and is available in CDMA form in the United States from Sprint (see Sprint Touch) and Alltel Wireless (see Alltel Touch).
There's no word on U.S. availability of the GSM version of the Touch, at least from a wireless carrier, but you can purchase the handset unlocked for use on any GSM/GPRS wireless network.
