April 9, 2007 - A month after long-told rumors of a Dell-branded Pocket PC Phone or Windows Mobile Smartphone were re-ignited, Dell has pulled the Axim from its online store. The Dell Axim X51 Series, comprised of the X51 and VGA X51v, were the last major widely-available PDA-only Pocket PCs on the market. It is unknown whether or not this development is a move designed to make room for the transition to Windows Mobile Smartphones or PDA Phones, or if Dell is planning to pull out of the mobile device market altogether.

Dell, one the leading PC manufacturers in the world, recently hired Ron Garriques who, until recently, headed up the Mobile Device Unit at Motorola, a move seen by many as a first step in Dell's plan to enter the phone market. Dell's Axim X51 and X51v, were released in 2005 and have not been updated since their release.
