HP cites "long delays" and "carry-over costs" as the reasons for the decision not to make Windows Mobile 6 upgrades available.
In early 2007, HP also announced that it would stop including a copy of Microsoft Outlook with its various Windows Mobile devices. Without Outlook, users cannot sync contacts, e-mail, etc., between their Windows Mobile device and Windows PC. Those who purchase iPAQ products are now forced to obtain Outlook at their own expense.
At present, the only HP iPAQ set to run Windows Mobile 6 is the upcoming 510 Smartphone, the first Windows Mobile device from HP to not feature a touchscreen.
