Since the first SDIO peripherals were announced a few years ago, SDIO Wi-Fi cards have been long plastic strips which came nowhere near fitting entirely in a Secure Digital slot. Now, a device from Eye-Fi seeks to make such extruded Wi-Fi cards a thing of the past.
The Eye-Film is a standard-sized SD card with 1GB of flash memory. However, also crammed into this postage-stamp-sized card is an 802.11g Wi-Fi transceiver, allowing compatible devices to connect to high-speed 802.11g and slower 802.11b wireless networks.
The upcoming Eye-Film SD card is designed to give Wi-Fi connectivity to compatible digital cameras; there's no word yet on Windows Mobile or Palm OS compatibility .
