According to training materials leaked on the Web, the Palm Treo 800w is powered by a 333MHz processor (specific make unknown) and weighs just under 5-ounces.  The data port will also be a standard microUSB port, not the Palm docking port that so many users have complained about for years (and years and years).

The documents also confirm that the 800w will be released by Sprint on July 13, as expected.  Find out more about the Palm Treo 800w…

Yahoo has released the third version of its Yahoo! Go software for Windows Mobile (which is still in BETA), and if you’re a Windows Mobile user who has a Yahoo email account, this free software is certainly worth a look.

yahoomob

The Yahoo! Go software provides access to Yahoo email as well as news, sports, weather, Flickr, maps and directions, Yahoo oneSearch, and the ability to augment the software with widgets.

For more information visit http://mobile.yahoo.com/go or point your mobile browser to get.go.yahoo.com.

Too bad there isn’t a similar application for Google’s suite of online offerings.

Could Windows Mobile soon see an included, over-the-air backup solution?  The recently announced acquisition of a Portuguese company, MobiComp, by Microsoft suggests that the software giant is interested in just that.  MobiComp offers a mobile backup solution in Portugal for cell phones which wirelessly backs-up contact, calendar and other cell phone information; a second service called MobileKeeper allows you to share photos and other content from popular sites such as Flickr and Facebook.

We hope this is a move toward a more Cloud-friendly setup for Windows Mobile, something we’re very much in favor of.

T-Mobile has a new Windows Mobile Smartphone on the horizon – the Shadow II (seen below in a user photo), which will replace, presumably, the current T-Mobile Shadow. The T-Mobile Shadow II will run Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard (non-touchscreen) and may be the first Windows Mobile handset from T-Mobile to work with that company’s HotSpot@Home Wi-Fi VoIP service.

The HTC Touch Diamond promises more than any Windows Mobile handheld in years, so there’s understandably a great deal of interest in this cutting-edge WinMo device.  An AT&T-branded version of the Touch Diamond won’t arrive for a few months yet, but if you’re really hankerin’ for some Diamond action in Q2, check out eBay.  There are more than a few Touch Diamond handsets for sale on eBay, and most are brand new.  These handsets are unlocked and will work with any GSM carrier like AT&T or T-Mobile.

Only a day after a leaked, but purportedly official, WM6.1 ROM update for Sprint’s HTC Mogul showed up online, a similar update has appeared for Sprint’s HTC Vogue, which is sold as the Sprint Touch.  This update is also supposed to be official, and updates the Sprint Touch to Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.  Unofficially official sounds pretty good to us, but, as always, install at your own risk.

Sprint Mogul users may not have long to wait for Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.  A file has recently been appeared at various sites which is supposed to be the finalized Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional ROM update for Sprint’s HTC Mogul, and although there’s been no official word from Sprint or HTC on the matter, when a ROM update starts floating around on online forums, there’s usually not much time left until official release.  As will all unofficial updates, install at your own risk.  We’ll keep you posted.

EDITORIAL: With Apple, Google and RIM making swift and sweeping moves in the world of handheld operating systems, Windows Mobile 6 – you know, Windows Mobile 5 / 2003 / 2002 with a slight makeover – is becoming a dated platform in many respects; we’re still a country mile from Palm OS territory, but it’s time for a major overhaul.

I’ve decided to focus my first in a multi-part editorial on the syncing possibilities of Windows Mobile and what improvements need to be added for Windows Mobile 7, which is due out next year.
