Skipping
the T4 model, palmOne has jumped directly
from the popular Tungsten
T3 to the Tungsten T5.
Unlike
the Tungsten T, T2 and T3,
the T5 does not have a collapsible design. Actually,
the T5 looks a lot like the popular Tungsten
E,
though comparisons to the T5 and the Tungsten
E are only skin deep. The Tungsten T5 is
powered by the new Palm OS 5.4 and a 416MHz XScale
processor. Features include a 320x480 color
display with both portrait and landscape viewing
modes, 256MB of total internal memory, onboard
Bluetooth and a Secure Digital card compatible
with SDIO peripherals as well as SD flash memory
cards.
The
T5's memory arrangement sets it apart from other
Palm OS and Windows
Mobile handhelds available
today. All of the T5's onboard memory is nonvolatile,
meaning a total loss of power doesn't erase
what's stored there. Additionally, 160MB
of the 256MB memory is set as an "Internal Drive"
which, when connected to a computer, is recognized
like a USB thumb drive, allowing you to move,
store, and copy information to the T5 like you
would any other flash media.
The Tungsten T5
is compatible with both Windows and the Mac OS.
