The T-Mobile G1 is the first smartphone powered by Google's open source Android mobile operating system. Announced on September 23, 2008, the T-Mobile G1 is now available for purchase.
The T-Mobile G1 was designed by HTC and sports a somewhat familiar slide-to-hide design with a QWERTY keyboard beneath the screen. As for the screen, it's a 480x320 HVGA touchscreen. Other hardware features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HSDPA and EDGE wireless data connectivity, a 3D graphics hardware and a 3MP camera.
The Android OS centers heavily on Google applications such as Google Maps, Gmail with Push support, Google Calendar, Google Talk, YouTube, etc. AmazonMP3 also has an application built-in which allows you to buy DRM-free music on the go. Software authors can also write applications for Android, so hundreds of third-party Android software titles will come over the coming months.
The T-Mobile G1 MSRP is $179 with a two-year service agreement. You can order now at the T-Mobile web site or unlocked at Amazon.com.
