Standalone Pocket PCs (read Pocket PCs without built-in telephones) are a rare breed in 2007, but Socket Mobile is gearing up to release its first such device: the Socket SoMo 650 Pocket PC.
The Socket SoMo 650, the first PDA from the well known mobile peripherals maker, is billed as a "true business class mobile computer" and is aimed at the prosumer and/or industrial user who needs a powerful, versatile and resilient handheld computer. The SoMo 650 rush Windows Mobile 5 and is powered by a 624MHz XScale processor. Other features include 128MB of system memory, 256MB of internal flash memory, 802.11g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, CompactFlash and SDIO card slots, and a large SVGA touchscreen display.
Scheduled to be introduced in April, the Socket SoMo 650 will be widely available in May 2007 with an estimated cost of $648. There's no word on Windows Mobile 6 upgradability as of this posting. Check back here in the coming weeks for further information. Have questions, information? E-mail us.
