In mid 2002, Toshiba ushered in
a new era of Pocket PCs with the employment of the
first XScale processor used in a mobile device.
The e740 was also the first Pocket PC with onboard
802.11b, a wireless Ethernet technology which launched
a wireless networking revolution in 2002 and 2003.
The e740 was discontinued following the release
of the e755, which was also recently discontinued.
Though Toshiba has withdrawn from the handheld market, A modern equivalent to the e740 is the HP iPAQ hx2795b Pocket PC.
